Thanks to an anonymous donor, the reward in an Atlanta home invasion that ended with the victim jumping from his balcony — and later dying — is now $40,000.
Jose Greer, 51, called 911 on Dec. 8 to report that men were kicking in the door at his Oak Street home. A few seconds later, he leaped over the railing of a third-story balcony and fell to the concrete some 30 feet below. He died during surgery.
Atlanta police, who have previously released surveillance video in the case, announced the increased reward on Wednesday, with Detective Vincent Velazquez urging anyone with information to call him directly at 404-617-9857. Velazquez said the department has gotten "lots" of tips in the case, but he's particularly interested in talking further with tipsters who have called on prior occasions.
Velazquez said the home invaders are likely 18 to 20 years old and probably live in or around the same West End neighborhood where Greer jumped to his death.
The reward in the case was originally $25,000 before increasing to $35,000 a few days after Greer’s death.
