Gwinnett County authorities are searching for an armed robber who stole cash from a gas station after being denied cigarettes.

The man entered a gas station on Rockbridge Road in unincorporated Stone Mountain and attempted to buy a pack of cigarettes, according to a news release from Gwinnett County police. When the clerk asked to see his ID, he said he didn’t have it and needed to leave to get it.

He returned about 10 minutes later, said, “I’m ready now,” and pointed a handgun at the clerk, the release said.

He demanded all the cash the clerk could give him, and then quickly left the store, the release said.

Police said there’s surveillance video that captures the suspect’s interaction with the clerk, and it may be possible someone will be able to recognize the suspect’s voice.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwinnett County police detectives at 770-513-5300 or call 404-577-8477.
