Officer Seed with Cobb County Animal Services rescued an orphaned raccoon this week.

For days, a baby raccoon stayed in a Cobb County yard, too scared to venture back into the woods.

But thanks to an animal control officer, it’s a “tail” with a happy ending.

“It's not all dogs and cats for us here at CCAS! Officer Seed rescued an orphaned raccoon today,” Cobb County Animal Services said in a Facebook post. “This poor thing has been in a citizen’s front yard for several days, without its mother in sight.”

Raccoons are common throughout Georgia and favor areas with mature hardwood trees, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. But as with all wildlife, humans shouldn’t approach raccoons, which can carry various diseases. Instead, it’s best to let trained animal professionals deal with raccoons, experts advise.

For Cobb animal control officers, it’s all in a day’s work. On Thursday, officers rescued a wayward peacock.
