A rapid fox wandered up to a porch in Loganville and attacked a man Thursday morning, authorities said.

Jerry Vincent heard his 22-year-old stepson screaming for help and ran outside, Channel 2 Action News reported. He found the fox holding down his stepson by the ankle.

He tried to stab the fox, but his knife broke, he told Channel 2.

A neighbor called Walton County Sheriff’s deputies after hearing the stepson scream, and when Sgt. Chris Labowicz and his partner arrived, they were attacked by the fox, the news station reported.

“All of a sudden, I saw what appeared to be a large cat that attacked my leg,” Labowicz said. “At that point, I’m trying to kick it off a few times, and I drew my service weapon.”

The deputy was able to kick the fox off of him, but when it tried to attack him again, both him and his partner shot and killed it, Channel 2 reported.

Vincent’s stepson had to go to the hospital for rabies shots due to the bite, and a test conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the fox was rabid, the news station reported.
