A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly running away from a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop in northwest Atlanta, police say.

Demone Allen, of Lithonia, faces 17 charges, including theft by receiving, entering auto, criminal attempt to enter auto and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Fulton County Jail records show.

The traffic stop was conducted near West Wesley Road and Wyngate Drive, Atlanta police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown told AJC.com.

When officers attempted to make the stop, Allen allegedly turned onto Wyngate Drive, which is a dead-end street, and jumped out of the vehicle, allowing it to crash into a fence in the 2000 block of the road, Brown said.

Officers briefly lost sight of Allen, but 911 calls about a suspicious man in the area helped officers locate him, Brown said.

He remains in the Fulton County Jail, and he’s been denied bond, jail records show.
