Usually by the time police arrive at a business where someone has used a stolen credit card, the suspect is long gone.
But that wasn’t the case in Dunwoody when officers got a call about a fraudulent purchase at a Perimeter Mall day spa, authorities said. Officers arrived to find their suspect on a massage table inside the business.
The woman, identified as 45-year-old Jennifer Rivera, was handcuffed on the spot earlier this month, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The alleged victim, who asked not to be identified, said she got a call from her credit card company asking if she’d just booked a massage at the Woodhouse Day Spa.
The woman was traveling to Hilton Head, S.C., at the time, so she immediately called the spa and the owner called the cops.
“This is a unique situation because typically someone goes into a store using one of these fake cards, they buy something and they leave,” Dunwoody police spokesman Sgt. Robert Parsons said. “I’ve never seen someone book a spa appointment on a stolen credit card and then stick around. I guess we interrupted her massage."
Police suspect that Rivera could be responsible for additional crimes after finding fake licenses, credit cards and credit card skimmers in her possession, Parsons said.
Rivera was charged with four counts of financial transaction card theft, four counts of identity theft and four counts of theft by deception. She was also wanted by deputies in Broward County, Fla., records show. The Lilburn woman remains held at the Fulton County jail without bond.
Detectives are reaching out to additional potential victims to help build their case against Rivera, Channel 2 reported.
