Police said a 1-year-old girl is in the custody of social services after she overdosed on prescription drugs.
Troutman police said the baby consumed one hydrocodone pill and seven Klonopin pills taken from Abishai Cox's purse.
The mother and child were transported by EMS to Iredell Memorial Hospital. During the hospital visit the child was admitted by the emergency room doctors to the hospital for overnight observation.
Iredell County Department of Social Services responded to the hospital and took emergency custody of the child.
Cox is charged with felony child abuse and possession of a controlled substance.
Police Chief Matthew Selves stated that the Troutman Police Department’s Criminal
Investigative Division conducted a thorough investigation and presented evidence to the District Attorney's office.
