Two men who were indicted for manufacturing and selling drugs in Cobb County did so near a school facility, Channel 2 Action News reported Thursday.

Darnell Barnes and Gilbert Kyle operated out of a house on Fort Street, less than 100 yards from the Performance Learning Center operated by Marietta City Schools, according to the news station.

The area is a mix of older homes and new construction.

“Nobody wins as far as the drug trade,” said Darrell Bullock, who lives and works in the neighborhood. “Nobody wins at all.”

Kyle, who also was indicted for allegedly obstructing law enforcement, ran from officers while he was handcuffed, Channel 2 reported. He allegedly left the scene while the house was searched.

Bullock has lived and operated his business for 30 years and said residents are working to rid the area of drugs and dealers.

“They need to find somewhere else to deal,” he said, “because Marietta is not the area.”
