An argument over taxes led a Gwinnett County man to kill his stepdaughter, police said in court Tuesday.

Bryon Winborne and his stepdaughter Kysha Johnson were fighting in their Pinehurst View Drive home March 24 when police received a person shot call.

A homicide detective testified Tuesday that Winborne, 42, of Grayson, killed Johnson during a fight about a delayed tax return, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“Loretta said that Brian had blamed Kysha for a delay in their tax return refund, which Loretta claimed not to be true,” Detective Shannon Kulnis said.

Johnson’s mother, two teenage boys and two young children were inside the home when the shooting happened, Gwinnett police Cpl. Deon Washington previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. They were not harmed.

Winborne ran from the house, but was captured in the subdivision and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
