A man accused of breaking into a car in an Albuquerque neighborhood failed to make a clean getaway.
Leonard Lopez, 26, was found by police Saturday night after a woman reported that a man had broken into her car and was stuck inside of it, according to the Albuquerque Journal. Screams could be heard coming from the vehicle as the officers approached.
When the officers opened the door, they found Lopez with his head and shoulders stuck under the steering wheel of the car. His body was completely upside down, with his feet hanging over the headrest.
After police verified the man had no weapons in his hands, they assisted in removing him from the vehicle. The man identified himself and indicated he was experiencing symptoms of opiate withdrawal. Police found methamphetamine in his pocket. He was arrested and charged with auto burglary and drug possession.
Police said Lopez ripped out the glove compartment box, broke a door handle and broke a headlight on the car.
It is not known how Lopez managed to get himself stuck upside down in the car.
