A Dunwoody family was scammed out of $300,000, Channel 2 Action News reported.

One family member told police she received emails that appeared to be from an embassy in China accusing her of being part of a criminal organization, Dunwoody police spokesman Sgt. Robert Parsons said.

She was then directed to send them money.

The victim said the emails made her concerned she could be jailed in China, her home country, according to Channel 2.

"The emails kept coming and over the course of the next few days the victim wired over $300,000 to these fraudsters who are now under investigation," Parsons said.

According to Parsons, the family will probably never get that money back.

The scam is under investigation, Channel 2 reported.
