Police overnight released a sketch of a man suspected of abducting a 9-year-old boy from outside his southwest Atlanta home Monday night and later releasing him in East Point.

Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said officers called to the boy's Fairburn Road home around 9 p.m. Monday were told that the boy had gone outside to retrieve a tool after cleaning out his dog's cage, but didn't return.

Chafee said officers were canvassing the area when, about 10:30 p.m., the boy's guardian received a call from the child.

"The child advised that he was at a residence in East Point," Chafee said.

"The child advised that while outside, a vehicle pulled up and the driver forced him inside," Chafee said. "He was driven around for a while and then dropped off in a neighborhood in East Point, where he then knocked on a door and called the guardian."

The boy, identified by Channel 2 Action News as Willie Myrick, told the station that he was snatched after spotting some money on the ground in his front yard.

"I was walking by the tree; I picked up the money and a man got out of his car and threw me in his car," Willie told Channel 2.

Chafee said the boy was not physically harmed during the incident.

Chafee said the suspect appeared to be in his 20s and was wearing khaki shorts and a white T-shirt with a Nike logo. The man had a tattoo on one of his biceps, and was driving a gray, four-door Honda Civic.
