A pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday night by a car heading southbound on Jonesboro Road.

Police say Anthony Alexander struck Fredy Ruiz as Ruiz was attempting to cross the road around 9:30 p.m. Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene by a Fulton County medical examiner.

“Atlanta police arrived and did field sobriety tests and determined Alexander was under the influence of drugs,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said. “Mr. Alexander submitted to a blood test, the results are pending.”

Alexander was arrested and taken to the Fulton County Jail. He is being held on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and homicide by vehicle, Jones said.
