A man accused of abducting and raping a college student at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, was arrested about noon Wednesday at a library in Atlanta, officials said.
Norman L. Pryor, 30, is a registered sex offender who was wanted by three Ohio law enforcement agencies, Canton, Ohio, police spokesman Capt. Jack Angelo told CantonRep.com.
Police had warrants for his arrest on charges of gross sexual imposition and public indecency. Two county sheriff’s offices had warrants charging him with being a habitual sex offender who failed to register his change of address.
Pryor allegedly abducted a woman who works on Aultman Hospital’s campus in the parking lot about 5:25 a.m. Monday.
Police believe he threatened her with a knife, forced her back into her car and made her drive to another location. That’s where he allegedly sexually assaulted her before forcing her to drive him to yet another location where he got out of the vehicle and walked away.
Detectives quickly put together information indicating Pryor was in Atlanta and contacted the U.S. Marshal’s Office, said James Joyner, the supervisory inspector with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Joyner said Pryor was accused of a “horrific” crime.
Agents arrested Pryor in a public library on Northside Parkway, Joyner said.
“We ran out and had people in the area in a few minutes of the phone call and took him into custody without incident,” Joyner said.
Pryor was being held in Fulton County jail, but he is expected to be extradited back to Stark County, Ohio, where his bond has been set at $7 million.
