The man who was shot early Saturday outside a Georgia State University dormitory is a former student, the school’s police chief said.

Nikari Elder “is a former student but not enrolled for fall semester,” GSU police Chief Joseph Spillane said Sunday.

Elder was in a car when he was wounded by a fellow passenger, campus police said.

The victim was one of four people in a vehicle outside The Commons, at 141 Piedmont Ave. near downtown Atlanta. Spillane said they were talking to another person outside the dorm when a passenger fired one or two shots at Elder, who was wounded in the face.

Police recovered a gun and marijuana from the vehicle, Spillane said Saturday.

The shooting suspect, Musleem Jones, 24, was charged with aggravated assault. He is not a student.
