The Georgia Department of Corrections is searching for a man who failed to return to the Atlanta Transitional Center after leaving his place of employment, the department said Tuesday.
William Birge was last seen in civilian clothing at his employer on Duquesne Road in southwest Atlanta, the DOC said on its Twitter account.
Since February, Birge has been in prison on charges of fleeing/eluding police, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
He was previously convicted of theft by taking and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and served one year and two months.
Both convictions came out of Carroll County.
The Atlanta Transitional Center prepares men who are nearing the end of their incarceration to assume responsible citizenship, according to the center’s website.
Anyone with information on Birge’s whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to call 911.
