Sandy Springs police have filed multiple charges against a man they say tried to run down one of their officers Monday night and drove a stolen car into two of their police vehicles.

The suspect, identified as Colin Lee Daves, 18, was shot by one of the officers as the drama unfolded. Daves was in custody and in St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose said a man was at the wheel of a stolen car about 7 p.m. Monday when police spotted him in the parking lot of the Prado, 5610 Roswell Road.

He tried to elude the officers, struck two Sandy Springs police vehicles and nearly ran down one officer, Rose said.

The officer fired at the car, he said.

The driver later wrecked and abandoned the car on I-285, Rose said.

Daves later went to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg.

Hospital staff notified Sandy Springs police, who took Daves into custody while he was being treated. He is charged with several criminal and traffic charges, including aggravated assault, Rose said.

No hearing date is set.
