A 33-year-old Newnan man died after being found in his kitchen Friday evening with multiple gunshot wounds, Newnan police said.

Police responded just after 9 p.m. to a call that reported a person being shot at 31 Highland Park Dr. They found a man lying in his kitchen with gunshot wounds, unresponsive. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

According to an initial investigation, other family members were in another part of the house when the shooting happened, Newnan police said.

“The family is working with police to identify the person responsible for the shooting,” according to Newnan police Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs, adding that the crime does not appear to be a home invasion or a random crime.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab will perform an autopsy. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Newnan police at 770-254-2355.
