It's been nearly three months since 24-year-old Shantrelle Monroe was found shot to death on a walking trail near a playground in DeKalb County.
For the first time since her death, her parents spoke to Channel 2 Action News and begged for their daughter’s killer to come forward.
“I try not to think about it, but I can’t help but think about it,” James Monroe, her father, told Channel 2. “The more I think about it, the more upset I get.”
In early December, her body was found by hikers in the Mainstreet subdivision outside of Stone Mountain, and DeKalb County police believe someone lured her there before shooting her, AJC.com previously reported. Her family said despite three months of investigation, police don’t appear any closer to cracking the case.

“The child lost her life, and we need to find out who took it,” Debra Monroe, her stepmother, told the news station. “(We’re) very frustrated, because we need to know who killed our daughter.”
AJC.com reached out to detectives to try to get an update on the investigation, and they said there “are no new updates,” according to DeKalb police Sgt. J.D. Spencer.
Shantrelle Monroe's death was the first in a string of homicides in DeKalb where deceased women were found by hikers or runners within a three-week period.
Laura Cooley, 59, was found lying face-down along Eastwood Drive in a neighborhood off Candler Road. Walter Threat, 67, was later arrested and accused of fatally shooting her.

Maya Mitchell, 22, was found lying next to a path at Glen Emerald Park on Bouldercrest Road on Dec. 31. Police believe she was shot about five hours prior to being found by a jogger.
Malik Nunally, 25, was arrested in late January and accused of killing her, police said. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail for allegedly failing to appear in court for several charges, which is when authorities realized he faced a murder charge in connection with Mitchell’s death.

Police do not believe the three cases are related. In response to the homicides, four new rangers were added to help patrol the county's parks.
