Four new rangers are patrolling DeKalb County parks at a time when residents are expressing concern about the safety of local greenspaces.

Two women were found dead near DeKalb parks in December, although police do not believe the cases are related.

This week, police identified the man accused of shooting and killing Maya Mitchell, who was discovered by a jogger in Glen Emerald Park on New Year's Eve.

No suspects have been identified in the killing of Shantrelle Monroe, a woman police believe may have been lured to a trail near the Mainstreet playground close to Stone Mountain.

Rangers will patrol parks, trails and recreational facilities seven days a week, focusing on safety and public awareness, the county said.
