A Maryland nanny has been charged with murder after police say she force fed the infant she was caring for until the baby girl suffocated.

Oluremi Oyindasola was upset because 8-month-old Enita Salubi woke her from a nap, NBC4 in Washington reported. Oyindasola, 66, of Glenarden, Maryland, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death and other charges.

Prince George's County police allege that Oyindasola was napping Monday when the child, who was in a walker, started crying and woke her up, the news station reported. A surveillance camera at the Salubi family's home showed Oyindasola trying unsuccessfully to feed the baby.

She then pulled her out of the walker, removed the nipple from the top of the bottle and poured the liquid, believed to be milk, directly into the baby’s mouth, NBC4 reported.

The baby squirmed and resisted as Oyindasola poured the entire contents of the bottle down her throat, police said. The nanny then did the same with a second bottle of milk.

The Washington Post reported that Enita "displayed difficulty breathing and signs of medical distress" during the forced feeding.

When she became unresponsive, Oyindasola called the little girl's father, who dialed 911 as he frantically drove home, NBC4 reported. Enita was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Post reported that the baby's autopsy showed that her lungs were full of the liquid forced down her throat. The cause of death was ruled to be asphyxiation.

Multiple neighbors told NBC4 that they'd been concerned for the baby's welfare even before Monday's fatal incident. One neighbor said that he'd hear the child crying every time he went outside.
