A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday after an SUV hit him at a Gwinnett County intersection, authorities said.

Devaughn Jones, 24, of Lawrenceville, died at the scene of the wreck, which happened around 7:30 p.m.

Jones was riding his 2008 Honda CBR 600 eastbound on Ga. 120, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com. Samantha Dickson, 33, was driving her 2014 Kia Sportage westbound.

According to the report, Dickson stopped at the intersection to Lakes Parkway and was waiting to take a left turn. She told officers there was a glare as the sun set, and she didn’t see any cars coming.

Dickson started making her left turn and suddenly saw Jones’ motorcycle right in front of her, the report said. Her SUV collided with the motorcycle and Jones was thrown from the bike, the incident report indicates.

Both the car and motorcycle were disabled after the crash and were hauled away by a wrecker service.

“Alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision,” Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said Friday in a news release. “The case is still under investigation, and charges could come at a later time.”
