Police said officers were called to Kristi Novak’s apartment shortly before 7 p.m. and found the two boys in a hallway. According to the criminal complaint, this incident wasn’t the first time she was accused of leaving her two sons alone.

Novak claimed she had a babysitter for her children, but police said they didn’t buy her story.

A woman who wished to remain anonymous told WPXI  she called police on Novak in May after she left three children, including a 1-year-old, alone.

“I did (call police) the first time back in May when she abandoned them; the first time when we found them in the road,” the woman said. “I hope this time they take the children off her.”

Investigators said Novak’s children are now in the custody of Westmoreland County Children and Youth Services.

Novak was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children.
