An 11-year-old Chamblee girl who disappeared after leaving school Tuesday afternoon was found safe later that night after a massive search involving dozens of police officers.
The child was found shortly before midnight at the Chamblee MARTA station, Chamblee police Capt. Michael Beller told the AJC.
“She’s safe and in good health,” Beller said. “We’re happy to find her safe. We have no indication of foul play.”
Beller said that investigators were seeking to determine where the girl had been since a friend of the family last saw about 4 p.m. walking on Sexton Woods Drive near Chamblee Middle School, heading toward Peachtree Boulevard.
The girl’s family called police about 5:20 p.m. to report that the girl, who ordinarily rides a school bus home from Chamblee Middle, did not board the bus and never arrived home at the family’s apartment in the Azalea Place Apartments, 3500 Chamblee-Dunwoody Way.
Chamblee police, assisted by units from Dunwoody and the DeKalb County Police Department, began searching with K-9 units around 6:30 p.m. Channel 2 Action News reported as many as 50 officers were going door to door, seeking information about the child.
