An Uber driver was seriously injured in a shooting early Friday after she picked up four men from a Clayton County discount store, authorities said.

The 33-year-old driver was found with gunshot wounds to her neck and under her arm at the Lakeside Apartment Townhomes off Riverdale Road, according to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

She was taken to a hospital and was “on life support fighting for her life,” the agency said Sunday evening in a public advisory.

A resident of the apartments called 911 about 3:45 a.m. Friday when his wife heard shots and he saw the woman slumped over in her blue Honda Civic, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com.

She was able to speak with responding Clayton County officers. According to the report, she said she was shot by her passengers when she pulled into the complex.

The passengers asked her to make a left turn, but she turned right according to her GPS directions, she told police. One of the passengers complained, and she was shot immediately, she said.

“The driver picked the suspects up from a nearby location and upon arrival to their destination, the driver was shot multiple times,” police spokeswoman Lt. Cherie West told AJC.com.

Investigators are looking for the four men she picked up at a Dollar General on the corner of Flat Shoals and Riverdale roads before the shooting. They have not been identified.

Police do not believe anything was taken during the incident but suspect it was an attempted carjacking, according to the report.

An Uber spokesperson confirmed that the victim was one of the company’s drivers.

“What’s been reported is devastating and our thoughts are with the driver and her loved ones during this difficult time,” according to a statement. “We stand ready to work with law enforcement to assist with their investigation.”

The ride-share company has a Law Enforcement Operations Team that assists authorities in investigations.
