Three men are facing murder charges in Alpharetta, police say.

Police arrested Michael Jamar Dawson of Lithonia, Dontravious Mahone of Riverdale and Jemal Gines of Decatur on Monday night and charged them with the murder of Kadarius Cortez Medlock, 21, who was shot in the head and killed April 21 at The Preserve at Academy on Wade Creek Road, police said.

The arrests were the result of a multi-agency operation in which four agencies executed search warrants on three residences in the metro Atlanta area, Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon said.

“We have charged three individuals with felony murder and burglary,” Gordon said.

Dontravious Bernard Mahone was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Alpharetta police said. Mahone tried to toss a gun into the attic when Clayton County police arrested him in Jonesboro.

Gordon said police gathered evidence at each residence that ties them to the homicide.

Detectives are still investigating whether the shooting was the result of a burglary gone bad or a drug deal, Gordon said.

“The men will be questioned intensely,” he said.

While police said they weren’t sure if the suspects knew Medlock, they are being investigated for ties to other area crimes, Gordon said.

“If you commit a crime of that magnitude, you’re naturally capable of something else,” Gordon said.
