A man who allegedly ran over a Cobb County cop’s foot last month trying to flee a meth arrest is now in police custody, authorities said.
Dustin Michael Thompson was arrested Thursday by U.S. Marshals and Cobb County Sheriff’s Office fugitive unit deputies after he was tracked to a relative’s home in Austell, authorities said.
Thompson was pulled over on Oct. 29 on Veterans Memorial Road in Mableton and the Cobb officer found what was believed to be methamphetamine and a scale with suspected meth on top of it in the center console of the car, according to a Cobb County arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Police said Thompson drove away, running over the officer’s foot in an effort to escape.
Thompson swerved into and out of traffic as he fled, jumping a curb in front of oncoming traffic and turning onto a “wrong way street,” the warrant said. And when he jumped from the moving car to get away on foot, police said the car rolled backward and struck another officer’s patrol car.
Thompson was wanted for aggravated assault of an officer, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, reckless conduct and obstruction, according to the warrant.
