A man and a woman were arrested Sunday and face multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a high-speed chase in Marietta, authorities said.

Officers were notified about a stolen white Volkswagen Passat by a license-plate reader on Austell Road and pulled over the car’s driver, Quency Simpson, 39, but he drove off, authorities told Channel 2 Action News.

Police chased him for miles on C.H. James Parkway, as the car reached 115 mph, Channel 2 reported. Jessica Fuller, 39, and her 8-year-old son were also in the car.

The chase came to a halt when the officer bumped into Simpson on the road, causing the car to spin as it pulled into a nearby neighborhood. The car crashed into a mailbox.

Simpson and Fuller allegedly had drugs in the vehicle, including marijuana of less than one ounce and unidentified controlled substances, resulting in misdemeanor and felony charges.

Both were charged with theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance, according to Cobb County jail records. Simpson was also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer for a felony offense, cruelty to children in the second degree and theft by receiving stolen property.

The child was not injured in the crash.
