A man wanted in connection with a deadly weekend shooting in North Georgia was taken into custody in Alabama.

About 8 hours elapsed from the time Gordon County sheriff’s deputies found a man’s body at a home near Calhoun and Justin Blake Martinat, 29, was apprehended, authorities said. A manhunt began after witnesses allegedly saw Martinat driving away from the scene.

Deputies were called to the home on Sylvania Circle about 1:15 a.m. Saturday in response to a shooting. They found a man, who has not been identified, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Sheriff Mitch Ralston said in a news release. The victim was local to Gordon County, he said.

According to the sheriff, a number of shots were fired at the home, and other people were also assaulted. The number of victims and the extent of their injuries were not released.

Detectives detained several witnesses for questioning.

Martinat was taken into custody about 9:45 a.m. in eastern Alabama. He will face a charge a murder once he is extradited back to Gordon County, authorities said.

“No one else is being sought in connection with this incident,” Ralston said.

No further details on the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting were released as an investigation is ongoing, he said.
