A man shot Monday afternoon at a southeast Atlanta apartment complex has died.
The man was shot at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of New Town Circle SE, Atlanta police said.
Around 2 p.m. the Atlanta Police received a call of a man shot at the Forest Cove Apartments. Upon arrival, police found a male shot multiple times, according to APD spokesman Lt. Charles R. Hampton Jr.
The man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries, Hampton said.
The man was in his early 40s, and police believe he lived at the apartment complex.
Residents told police the shooter or possibly shooters got away on foot, Hampton said.
Forest Cove resident Crystal Teasley said she was looking out the window when she saw the man, whom she and her neighbors call “Graveyard,” get shot outside her apartment. She said she saw two men with guns get away on foot after shooting the man.
Teasley said she called the police and stayed on the phone as she tried to save the man.
“I was the only one on the phone with the ambulance, telling me what to do,” she said.
Teasley said the man was alert while she was tending to his gunshot wounds, and later learned he had died at the hospital.
As they did not have a description of any possible suspects as of around 4 p.m., Atlanta police has asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or to text the tip to 274637.
“Anything that happened obviously in broad daylight in the height of the afternoon is very concerning, so that’s why we’re asking anyone who heard or saw anything to come forward so we can get these individuals off the street,” Hampton said.
Forest Cove has been the scene of several crimes during the last 15 months.
In April 2014, an elite FBI team rescued 63-year-old Frank Arthur Janssen from the Forest Cove Apartments after he was kidnapped from his home in Wake Forest, N.C. Janssen's daughter prosecuted a reputed gang member who allegedly orchestrated the abduction from his maximum-security prison cell.
In October 2014, a group of men started shooting at each other and 1-year-old Rodrickus Robinson was caught in the crossfire. Rodrickus, whose nickname is Junior, was leaving a birthday party with his grandmother when he was shot.
“There’s always something, every day,” Teasley said of crime at Forest Cove. “This is like an everyday thing out here.”
