A man died after he was shot in the chest at a Gwinnett County gas station Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The Gwinnett County Police Department tweeted that the shooting happened about 2 p.m. at an Exxon station on Lawrenceville Highway at Oakland Road.

Two men got into a fight shortly after the alleged shooter stopped to fix a flat tire, Gwinnett police said in a news release. The shooter stayed at the gas station and waited for police to arrive.

A witness, Julius Glover, told Channel 2 Action News he heard a gunshot and looked around a corner to see a man standing over another man with a gun pointed at him.

“I said, ‘Don’t shoot him again, please,’” Glover told Channel 2. “And he put the gun down and said, ‘Just call the police.’”

Witnesses told police the men were fighting over the same woman and one of the men punched the other. Investigators found a handgun on the hood of a Jeep, according to Channel 2.

The names of the men involved will be released after notification of next of kin.

An investigation is ongoing and police were still interviewing the suspect at the station shortly after 6:30 p.m.
