Atlanta police are searching for a man who committed an armed robbery at a Buckhead ATM on Tuesday night.

The incident happened about 7:15 p.m. at the Bank of America inside the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center, according to a police incident report obtained by AJC.com. The victim, Eric Johansson, told Channel 2 Action News he thought he picked a safe place to withdraw $500 to buy gifts and fund an upcoming vacation.

Johansson said the area is well-lit and features two police mobile surveillance unis and a patrolling security guard. However, the man and his wife quickly lost the cash.

“They must have seen us pull up to the parking lot,” he told Channel 2. “It was scary ... adrenaline is pumping. You get all tensed up.”

His wife stayed in the car while Johansson walked to the ATM, the incident report said. However, he spotted a man in a hoodie who began to walk toward his car.

The thief, who was wearing all black, was also holding some type of semi-automatic rifle, the man told police. The robber then stole the man’s cash, debit card and a cellphone before running away.

The victim wasn’t able to get a good look at the thief’s face, Channel 2 reported. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area in an attempt to get a better description of the suspect.
