The man had a gunshot wound to his torso, Rodriguez said,  and went in and out of consciousness.

The victim is a South Carolina resident, the Athens Banner-Herald reported. Rodriguez told the paper that the man is in a medically induced coma and had life-threatening injuries.

Police said the man was shot while at The Park at Athens Lakeside apartments in the 1000 block of Lakeside Drive. He drove to the intersection, where he was found before he asked a nearby person for help.

His identity was not released.
