A man was in critical condition early Friday evening after a shooting in southwest Atlanta, police said.

Authorities arrived on the scene in the 1900 block of Shepherd Circle SW just before 5:30 p.m.

The man was said to be alert, breathing and conscious when transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his status has since changed to critical condition, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Ralph Woolfolk.

Police are investigating the shooting and no other information was immediately available.
