A Winder man charged with impersonating an Atlanta police officer was booked into jail Tuesday, police told the Gainesville Times.

Joseph Healy Kienzle, 48, was charged after an Oakwood police officer made a routine traffic stop after midnight May 13 on Mundy Mill Road and Continental Drive.

Kienzle allegedly identified himself as an Atlanta Police Department officer, Sgt. Danny Sridej told the newspaper.

“They couldn’t verify his identification at the time,” Sridej said, because the man said he left his wallet and credential at home. He reportedly told police he was running a quick errand.

The officer “gave him a written warning and sent him on his way, thinking he was an officer,” Sridej said.
