A bullet skimmed Jacob Chase's temple after he ran after an alleged car burglar.

A man was nearly shot in the head after chasing an alleged car burglar away from his home, Cobb County police said.

The homeowner, Jacob Anderson, followed the suspected burglar around 2 a.m. Thursday in his pickup truck after he saw the man trying to break into his fiancee’s car on West Sandtown Road in west Cobb. The suspect allegedly shot several times at Anderson, who was unarmed.

Anderson suffered a non-life-threatening injury after a bullet skimmed his temple. Police have not named a suspect.

Anderson’s fiancee, Mckynzie Glover, told Channel 2 Action News the close call was extremely frightening.

“I'm pretty sure I almost had a heart attack,” she said. “I almost lost my best friend.”

Mckynzie Glover is relieved her fiancee survived the encounter.

Police urge victims and witnesses of a crime to dial 911 instead of following suspects from the scene, according to a news release.

The department held a town hall Wednesday at McEachern United Methodist Church to discuss the string of recent car break-ins.
