A prisoner on a work detail at a Hall County park was taking a break when a man with a knife attacked and threatened to kill him, authorities said.

Johnny Joe Reynolds, 38, is charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats in connection with the incident.

The alleged assault happened at Cool Springs Park on Sunday, according to Hall sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Scott Ware. The detail was doing lawn maintenance at the park and paused for a bathroom break, he said.

Reynolds confronted one of the inmates, Ware said. At some point, Reynolds pulled out a knife and said he was going to kill the inmate. The relationship between Reynolds and the inmate is unclear, but they don’t appear to know each other, Ware said.

A deputy who was supervising the detail arrested Reynolds. He was booked into the Hall jail, where his bond has not been set.
