A Locust Grove man accused of running down and killing his pregnant girlfriend two years ago has received a plea deal that will keep him from serving decades in prison, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Henry County authorities charged Brian Feltman, 27, with murder and feticide for intentionally running down Meghann Pope, 27, just before 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2012 in Locust Grove.

Henry County police said Pope, who was about four months pregnant, had walked away from the Locust Grove home she shared with Feltman after an argument. Pope died less than a mile from that home.

Feltman faced murder, feticide and other charges related to Pope’s death. His trial began this week.

On Tuesday after the state rested its case, the Henry County District Attorney offered a plea deal for the lesser charges, according to Channel 2. In a statement the district attorney wrote,”the felony murder count of the indictment was based entirely upon circumstantial evidence. At the conclusion of the state’s case, I did not believe that the state would be successful in obtaining a conviction on the felony murder count, ” Channel 2 reported.

Feltman was sentenced to seven years minus time served. He was facing a possible life sentence, Channel 2 reported.

The victim’s family expressed outrage at the plea deal.

“He murdered my daughter and he got away with it,” Lawrence Pope, the father of Meghann Pope, told Channel 2.
