A woman from Maine is being held in the Cobb County Jail on homicide charges following a weekend crash, police said.

Courtney A. Washbourne of Yarmouth, Maine, was drunk Sunday night when she ran a red light while driving south on Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta, Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said Tuesday.

When Washbourne’s Nissan Xterra crossed into the intersection at Woodlawn Parkway, it collided with a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Focus that were turning left.

The driver of the Toyota, 59-year-old Sharon L. Freeman of Roswell, was pronounced dead at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital shortly after the crash.

The occupants of the Ford, Marietta residents Christopher Kinsler, 30, and Chelsea Kinsler, 27, refused medical treatment at the scene, Pierce said.

The force of the collision pushed Washbourne’s Nissan across Johnson Ferry Road into the northbound lane, where she struck a Volvo XC60 head on. Maryland Moss, 69, of Marietta, who was driving the Volvo, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Pierce said.

Washbourne, 38, was first taken to the hospital with a black eye and other non-life-threatening injuries. Once cleared medically, she was charged with felony homicide and two misdemeanors related to driving under the influence and running a red light.

The crash continues to be investigated and anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
