Journalists in the White House press room were told to stay in place after the lockdown was issued around 10:30 a.m. Officials closed some roads to investigate the package.

The lockdown was lifted by 11:50 a.m. The Secret Service said one person was taken into custody.

An unidentified Secret Service source told Fox News that a man outside the White House fence told authorities he was carrying a bomb in his bag Tuesday morning. Authorities seized and searched the bag, according to the news network.

The Secret Service is investigating.

The incident was reported following a series of White House security breaches.

A 26-year-old man scaled the White House fence earlier this month and spent 16 minutes on the grounds before he was detained by authorities. Authorities arrested a woman on Sunday after she failed in her third attempt to get onto White House grounds, according to the Secret Service.
