Ruland, 19, of Sugar Hill, died March 3 after Dowell lost control of a 2003 Acura on I-75 north at the Chastain Road exit ramp, Cobb police said.

Police spokeswoman Officer Alicia Chilton said the car rotated clockwise, rolled on its roof and crashed into a tree.

Two other friends — Cole Kovarchick, 20, of Demorest, and Jordan Wormsby, 20, of Suwanee — sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Dowell, 20, of Suwanee, was released from county jail on $5,720 bond, jail records show.
