Several people were injured Monday after a nine-car crash in Dahlonega ended with a van crashing into a Moe’s restaurant near the University of North Georgia.

The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Chestatee Street and Morrison Moore Parkway in front of the restaurant, the Lumpkin County sheriff’s office said.

The driver of a Chevrolet Express cargo van started a chain reaction that led to the collision and then crashed into the restaurant, the Georgia State Patrol said. The driver was headed east on Morrison Moore Parkway.

The van was removed from the restaurant and two people inside sustained minor injuries.

A Dahlonega city worker was injured as he tried to get out of the way of the vehicles, the GSP said.

Officials did not specify how many people were injured but said that none of the motorists appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

Four of those injured were taken to Chestatee Hospital in Dahlonega and three others were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Morrison Moore Parkway was shut down temporarily from South Chestatee Street to Alicia Lane, but has since reopened.
