Police responded to an East Point parking lot Wednesday afternoon after several gunshots were fired along Virginia Avenue, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. near a McDonald’s and Spondivits seafood restaurant.

Several people ran from the scene to get away from the gunfire, according to an AJC.com reporter on the scene.

One woman was placed in an ambulance on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. An officer at the scene said the woman was injured in the shooting, but is expected to survive.

Police placed crime scene tape around a black Toyota sedan in the McDonald’s parking lot, but investigators haven’t said whether that’s where the shooting occurred.

East Point police spokeswoman Sgt. Ebony Bullock said Thursday investigators are still working leads. No other information about the shooting has been released.
