A 23-year-old mother was being held without bond Monday following her 2-year-old son’s death, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Trinity Grace Pittman was charged with murder and first-degree child cruelty after her son died from various injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said. The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital late Friday and transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where he died.

Pittman initially gave various accounts of how her son was injured, according to Lt. Elaine Jordan. The mother later confessed to striking the boy multiple times, Jordan said.

The GBI conducted an autopsy Saturday. The cause and manner of death were not available Monday pending additional testing, according to a GBI spokeswoman.

Pittman’s 4-year-old child was placed in the care of a relative, Jordan said.
