A Cobb County mother is furious after her son was injured in a weekend road-rage shooting on I-20, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“It is not OK to shoot people on the highway,” Kristy, who asked Channel 2 to not use her last name, said. “It is not OK to continue to think that you’re not going to be caught. Whether it be on this side or the other, God knows what you did.”

Her 22-year-old son told the news station he was in the right lane and about to merge into the middle lane near Riverside Parkway when a driver cut him off.

“When we looked at each other, it was in sync,” the son said.

He put his hands in the air, but the other driver pulled out a gun and fired a shot, according to Channel 2. He drove to a gas station on Riverside Parkway and called 911.

He was then rushed to a hospital, but Kristy said doctors told them removing the bullet would be a high-risk procedure.

“This bullet is inches away from his spine,” she said. “He said he could’ve been paralyzed for the rest of his life.”

Her son is recovering at home, Channel 2 reported. Anyone with information about the shooter, described as a man in his 30s with a beard, is asked to contact Cobb County police.

“You almost took my baby away from me,” Kristy said. “And you need to pay for your crime.”
