A Gwinnett County man was charged with marijuana possession Thursday morning —after he allegedly walked into court with it.

As Jacob Bardwell, 43, was passing through the Duluth Municipal Court security line, he emptied his pockets and placed a clear plastic bag containing marijuana in the tray, according to a police report.

The security officer questioned Bardwell about the marijuana, and he claimed it was his wife’s, Duluth police spokesman Ted Sadowski said.

Then, Bardwell retracted his statements, according to Sadowski.

Bardwell told police he left his home in a rush and forgot he had the pot in his bag.

He then had to head into court to address his original traffic violation and a new city ordinance violation of marijuana possession, the police report said.
