A driver has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide in connection with a wreck that caused the death of a motorcyclist in Gwinnett County.

Natalie Merizalde, 20, of Lawrenceville, also faces a count of failure to yield while turning left, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said Wednesday in a news release.

The charges stem from a collision Friday that killed Robert Boren, 49, of Suwanee. Officers were sent to the intersection of Collins Hill and Russell roads in Lawrenceville shortly before 6 p.m., Pihera said.

According to police, Boren was heading straight when Merizalde tried to make a left turn in the Honda Accord she was driving. The Accord hit Boren, and he was thrown from his motorcycle, Pihera said.

Merizalde and a passenger who was in the Accord were not hurt, according to police.

Both vehicles were impounded after the crash, which is still under investigation.

Merizalde has not been arrested, but is making arrangements to surrender, Pihera said.
