Gwinnett County police Wednesday were trying to determine if a gas station shooting that left a 14-year-old girl wounded was intentional or accidental.

Officers responding to a person shot call at the Marathon station in the 2000 block of Beaver Ruin Road near Norcross about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday found the victim, who was suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound, Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

“During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that a vehicle with four occupants arrived at the gas station to get fuel,” she said. “While the driver was fueling up the vehicle, the victim was shot from inside the vehicle.”

Pihera said after several people, including the occupants of the vehicle, removed the victim from the car to render first aid, “the suspected shooter got inside the driver’s seat of the vehicle and drove away, leaving behind the victim and the other occupants.”

Police later found the unoccupied vehicle at the Bradford Gwinnett apartment complex.

She said the victim, whose name has not been released, was in stable condition Wednesday at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The suspected shooter was still being sought Wednesday, according to Pihera.

Anyone with information about the alleged gunman is asked to call the police department’s criminal investigations division at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Tipsters can receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
