A 25-year-old woman from Georgia died after being run over by a police car in a Salt Lake City suburb Tuesday night, authorities said.

The officer was responding to the parking lot of a Millcreek strip mall when the officer's patrol car ran over Cindreia Simone Europe just before 11 p.m., the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake officials told The Associated Press the woman was lying face down, wearing dark clothes and in an area of the parking lot where the officer didn't expect to see anyone. Attempts to resuscitate the woman were unsuccessful.

Police said Europe’s car, which she was living in, had been towed the night before, the newspaper reported. Investigators haven’t determined whether she was already dead when she was run over or if she died from the impact.

It’s unclear where in Georgia the woman was from or why she was in Utah. Police told the Tribune she may have been homeless and had been spotted in the area recently.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, the AP reported. Salt Lake City police are investigating.
