A man who is already in jail for allegedly molesting children in White County is now accused of molesting four of his children in Hall County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Scott Shelby, 44 of Cleveland, faces 17 charges in White County, and deputies in Hall County obtained additional warrants for aggravated child molestation, child molestation and first-degree child cruelty there, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Between January 2017 and March 2018, Shelby is accused of sexually abusing his four children, who range in age from 10 to 15 years old, police said. The Division of Family and Children Services was alerted to the alleged abuse this February, which is when police were contacted, authorities said.

The investigation led to Shelby’s wife, 38-year-old Rebecca Shelby, being arrested Wednesday on four counts of second-degree child cruelty for her alleged knowledge of the abuse, police said. Their four children were placed in foster care.

By the time his wife was arrested, Scott Shelby was already behind bars in White County for “gross abuse to children” at a home in the 100 block of Rocket Drive in unincorporated Cleveland, according to an incident report obtained by AJC.com.

The children he’s accused of abusing range in age from 9 to 14 years old. It’s unclear if they are the same kids he’s accused of abusing in Hall County.

The alleged abuse lasted from April 2018 until February, which is when the sheriff’s office was contacted by DFCS about the alleged abuse, the report said. Five firearms were confiscated as evidence, one of which was listed as being used in a crime.

His 17 charges include four counts of aggravated child molestation, six counts of first-degree child cruelty, two counts of simple battery-family violence and one count each of false imprisonment, sexual battery against a child, aggravated assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and reckless conduct, the sheriff’s office said.

Scott Shelby remains in the White County jail without bond while Rebecca Shelby is being held in the Hall County jail on a $9,600 bond, records show.
